Staring at Jacob

The neighbourhood 'oud west' in Amsterdam has welcomed a new brunchroom. At the crossing of the Staringstraat with the Jacob van Lennepkade, Staring at Jacob has settled down. The owner, also known by G&T's Really Really Nice Place and Fraiche has used his creativity not only for the restaurant's name, the menu is even more interesting. Try a ' Tree Hugger' (quinoa with kale, chickpea and tofu, with yoghurt and granola on the side) or a 'Benny Hill' (poached eggs, english muffin and smoked avocado) together with a mimosa or maybe a screw driver to drink. Sit yourself down at the large wooden tables, or wait in the 'waitingroom' on the wooden tin-up chairs until the lovely English-speaking host comes to lead you to your table. Really really like the place? Then you can even buy one of the wooden chairs for 25 euros, paint it in you style and donate it back to the restaurant and enrich Staring at Jacon with your own style. You might get discovered by one of the arty visitors ;)

Really Really Nice Place

This week, I went to this really really nice place. No really, that is the name of a new brunch cafe in the lovely typical Amsterdam neigbourhood, the Jordaan. At G&T's Really Really Nice Place (that is their exact name), you can have brunch every Saturday en Sunday starting from 10.30 am until 16.00 pm. Apart from that, they are also a bar, sometimes an exhibition place, a movie theatre and occasionally throw a party. G&T just does anything they like that is fun and brings you gezelligheid. And you can see that. Everything they do is fun. Please have yourself an Ibiza salad with quinoa, sweet potato, mint, parsley, avocado, feta and toasted pumpkin seeds. Or have one of their marvelous (non)alcoholic cocktails. The food is great, the drinks are even better. So if you like art and a surprising unconventional surrounding, then visit G&T to relax on a big couch, chill at the bar or sit down in the red movietheater seats. And have yourself a wonderful Sat/Sunday.

Almost every Saturday, I go for lunch with a friend. It is just my treat of the week and Amsterdam has so many original, beautiful and healthy lunchspots that every Saturday again, it is hard to choose. Since I live in the neighourhood the Pijp, I love to go for a walk over the Albert Cuyp market, get some groceries, do some shopping and have a bite to eat. My absolute favourite #1 spot to have lunch in the Pijp is Cottoncake. It is a concept where fashion, art, design and food come together. The girls who started this lovely place, just put everything in their shop they like, from shoes and lingerie to books, olive oil and plaids. And the food is a-ma-zing. Please try the quinoa salad with pumpkin and almonds with a ginger tea. Or the homemade coco, cranberry and nut granola with a chai latte. One word: lovely.
