Rusty Visits
Yesterday, I visited Roest, which calls itself a creative haven, a city oasis. When you think of it, you could name the whole of Amsterdam a creative haven, but Roest really stands out in that matter. In the middle of nowhere, but still the heart of the city, Roest has situated itself in an area where there used to be only industry. Since the city of Amsterdam is focusing on revibrating areas that are old and neglected, Roest is a welcome initiative. Roest exists out of two buildings, one part is the bar/restaurant where you can get drinks and food. Of course in a unconventional way; you grab a shopping cart, and get what you need in their little "supermarket". Don't expect a yummy sandwich made for you, it is a help-yourself concept, so you can make it yummy yourself with help from some hummus, cheese or other ingredients. After you have paid you can plump into one of the chesterfields or a even in an airplane seat if you like. Or head outside to sit at one the tables made of old construction materials. When sunny, you could even sit at the (city)beach. Next door, there is an old warehouse where Roest sometimes throw parties and this weekend organized the Warehouse Weekender Market, full of design, vintage, art and food. Roest is a must see for anyone who likes to flee away from busy Amsterdam city and appreciates art, vintage and somewhat surprising initiatives. Hope to see you there soon!

Saturday Lunch @ Droog Hotel
I fi-nal-ly visited Hotel Droog. It was on my top list for quite a while since one of my friends started working there. Despite the name, you really can't name Hotel Droog only a hotel. Hotel Droog is also a fashion store, beauty shop, an exhibition place and you can drink, eat & sleep here. But Hotel Droog does this all with an undutch high standard. The clothes are all from exclusive catwalk labels. The exhibitions are meant to create discussion between design and society. There only is one hotelroom that consists of all design that you can buy at Droog. With this offer of high class products, Hotel Droog has international allure and therefore attracts a lot of international customers. So please don't only go there for lunch. Although I would understand, because what they serve is de-li-cious. We enjoyed a sandwich hummus with grilled veggies. A sandwich BLT with avocado and pancetta. A smoked salmon salad with asparagus. To top it off, a delicious carrotcake. And of course, all food was served on design plates and was brought at our table by beautiful Hotel Droog people: international & with their own style. Please do have a look and take your time!

Creative Factory
The Creative Factory (Creatieve Fabriek) is an old factory in my hometown that has been restored and now settles the offices of multiple young entrepreneurs and creatives but also hosts several cultural events. In short, it is the Westergasfabriek of Amsterdam and really the current flagship of Hengelo. The similarities with the Westergasfabriek are promoted & embraced and that is not strange since the the purpose of the creative factory was long needed in this city. With the academy of arts in the neighboring town, Twente has lots of creatives who needed a fitting place to think, produce & create. I never visited the place, but since my brothers are in search of their own workspace (they have a company where you can design your own furniture www.jemeubelopmaat.nl), they had a look. They told me about the great industrial vibe and that I had to take some pictures. So I did, on a sunny afternoon, I visited the place together with my mum. See & Enjoy!
